Yes I know you need another group like you need another STD,but my buddy Ross has started a new group Called Comic Process :iconcomic-process:
It's going to going to be all about...well..the process of making comics.A free resource where you can come and and have all your questions answered about any aspect of the comic book process, penciling, inking, coloring, lettering, writing and everything in between.
Right now we need members and material. If you'd like to join to be able to submit work for critique great! If your a professional or a talented amateur and would like to submit a great tutorial, behind the scenes info or just some personal thoughts on how you think things should be in the comics industry of today, that's great as well.
So come check it out :iconcomic-process: we're hoping to make this a large easily accessible library of comic info goodness that everyone can use, contribute to and learn from.
:iconcomic-process:

Cheers,
Chris

Spent 4 hours Wednesday shop-vacing  an inch of water out of the basement our landlord told us was dry locked already.Spent an additional 3 hours on Thursday painting dry lock everywhere and will spend another couple hours today putting on a second coat to make sure it's all sealed. If that doesn't sound like a party I don't know what does.
Not to mention we had a nice little second living area set up down there, rugs, entertainment center, recliners a bed and a electric fireplace.I had a desk and a little office set up,a work out area as well in addition to storage on the other side of the basement.Needless to say a lot of things were ruined plus the hassle and cost of having to clean everything up.I guess the moral of the story is if someone tells you your basement is dry and sealed, don't take them on their word.Take the little bit of extra time and money and make sure it's done right.

My computer was six years old and I finally broke down begrudgingly and bought a new one.I'm an aging fart who's set in his ways and I don't like change but after a year of RAM slots crapping out on me,repeated F.U. blue screens of death when working on a page in Photoshop(especially when opening the Bridge)and compatibility issues I got fed up.
Well I got her all hooked up with a DVI monitor cable instead of the old VGA and a 20" screen(my old one was 18") and HOLY CRAP!!!
It was like seeing my art up close for the first time. The first thought that went through my head was a comment somebody made about seeing Brad Pitt for the first time in HD and how incredibly bad he looked and that's what some of my work looked like to me.So if you notice a marked improvement in my crappy coloring skills thank the new monitor and the wonders of DVI :D

How to successfully interact with your favorite professional artist/writer.

I'm writing this journal because I see an increasingly disturbing trend among sites like Deviant art and others where professional artists gather to show off their work and interact with their fan base.
Kids and adults alike today have unprecedented access to interact with their favorite artist, writers and such. And with that access comes a greater sense of entitlement than I've ever seen before.
While a lot of fans are appropriately respectful,I see waaaay too many of the kind that demand attention and when that attention is not given that individual kind of goes off the deep end(being very rude, death threats etc)and ends up getting blackballed or banned for acting inappropriately. And that's just not a good thing for either party,so to hopefully prevent even just one of said events from occurring here are my "Three simple rules of engagement for interacting with the pros"(and really anyone you might come in contact with)

1.ABOVE ALL ELSE BE POLITE AND COURTEOUS!!No matter what happens! No matter if you think the person was being rude or not.If you think the person was being rude to you, address it politely and privately or just try on another occasion to interact with them.Chances are they didn't mean to be rude and were just misunderstood and if they were being rude...MOVE ON! it's not worth it to point out they were being rude, things getting out of hand and you risking being labeled a nut job or being banned from DA.IT'S JUST NOT WORTH IT!

2. DON'T OBSESS!! The professionals on this site and others receive hundreds if not thousands of notes and comments telling them how amazing they are or asking for advice about this that and the other thing or take a look at my work please!! While this is all well and great and the comments are appreciated,it is essential that you understand that these are VERY busy professionals with deadlines galore and they just don't have the time to personally interact with each and every fan and even if they have the time they're not obligated to do so.If they do choose to respond to a comment you made or give you that piece of advice you wanted, thank them and don't continue to pester them with question after question and comment after comment and risk being labeled a stalker.Remember it's their time to give not yours to demand.

3. BE CAREFUL WHO YOU PISS OFF!! The reason for most interaction with pros on sites like these is because the fan is an artist themselves and wants to "get noticed" by said professional. Now this may be a point of contention but I see nothing wrong with a casual "hey hows it going, love your work if you get a chance maybe take a look at mine." BUT LEAVE IT AT THAT!! don't come back and hound them and beg them to look at your artwork or add you on their Dev watch.
Remember the professional artist community is fairly small and tight knit and while their may not actually be a C.A.C (chuckle) if you rub someone the wrong way, piss them off or act like your mentally unbalanced chances are word will get around and talent or not you will appear difficult to work with and have an extremely hard time getting into the profession you love.So again before you send that flaming response to the pro who just doesn't see that you're a brilliant artist and worthy of fame and fortune, step back and think about it.If your work is truly amazing and worthy of note someone will take notice, just be patient.

And that's the base of it,and let's face it while these guys are like the rock stars of the art world to many people whether they realize it or not,They are also just people with jobs, families and concerns that are far away from Deviant Art and being able to interact with them like this is a privilege so just don't abuse it.
And if there are any pros out there that happen to read this and have anything they would like to add please feel free.

I was just looking over my friend Arley's page ~therealArturo, and I noticed that he's been on here for two years and has not quite 7,000 page views, compared to my close to 9,000 in just a year.
Now that doesn't work at all for me because 1. I'm just a hack colorist and when it comes down to it,I really just enhance other peoples artwork 2.Arley is ridiculously talented and deserves WAY more attention than he's getting and is just about the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet.
Sooooo I decided to write this journal to let anyone that happens to be browsing my page know to go and check out Arley's awesome work as well.
You'll be happy you did.

Just had to mention that everyone and their brother is figuring out that the one and only Jim Lee is here on DA [link] And he's been here for a YEAR now? Anywho,I was amusing myself for a while just sitting and refreshing the page every second and watching Jim's page views go up by 10's and even more.I mean he's averaging about 3 page views a second!and I'm sure it'll go up from there.Sorry that's all...small things amuse small minds I guess eh?

Ok I'm gonna get this right out in the open.I know everyone has their my house is haunted/ghost stories,It's like a national phenomenon. That being said,I just had the weirdest thing happen to me... I was sitting at my computer happily coloring away and then I heard what I thought was the toilet running for know reason,it was dead quiet and then bam the sound of running water.
I got up to fix the toilet thinking hmmph that's weird.but when I got to the bathroom it wasn't the toilet...the faucet was on about half way and running.I looked around to confirm what I already knew, I was alone in the house!! It really freaked me out,I mean I had hair standing on the back of my neck. Now my wife and daughter have said they've seen things before in this house and my daughter has told us that she feels like someone is always watching her but I only kind of half heartedly believed them, now I would have say I'm inclined to believe them.
So if anyone has any logical explanation as to what happened,I'd be more than happy hear it but until someone can convince me otherwise...
THIS PLACE IS HAUNTED!!
